How long will cut flowers last?
How long will cut flowers last that I buy from a supermarket (probably Tesco)?
I’m getting my mum some (along with other things) but I can’t manage to get there on Friday or Saturday. And they are for Sunday (mothers day).
Will they last that long, from thursday-ish? And still have quite a life ahead of them? And not look like they have started to wilt ect?

Flowers will be fine if bought on Thursday. To prolong their life add dissolved aspirin to the water. It usually works.
Your best bet is to add 1 teaspoon of sugar to the water–this will prolong their life. Also, keep away from direct sunlight and extreme temp changes.
The aspirin idea does not work…neither does adding a copper penny.
You should change the water every 2 days, too. And I would give the flowers a “fresh cut”>>>do a diagonal cut off the bottom a bit. Here are some tips to see for yourself:

(I’m sure your Mother will be thrilled
)….have a wonderful day.
I would avoid roses and tulips, as they are the trickiest to keep in good condition. Irises do not last long. If you buy chrysanthemums or carnations they usually last for ages, especially if you put flower food in the water (or use lemonade instead of water -carnations can last for weeks like this) If you get lilies make sure the buds are unopened – they will soon open in a warm room. If you can, keep your flowers in a cool room until Sunday – Flower warehouses store in cold dark rooms.
