    callistemen i think
they are a very solid plant
its always best to pick the dead heads away

you should nip them off at the base if only to keep the plant looking neat. Having said that, I always leave mine on and find that I’m having to remove the dried stems when the plant wakens after its winter’s sleep.

I planted one two years ago and left the flowers when they wilted. The following spring i had to cut them off. Last year I cut off the dead flowers and the bush seemed to get a second “wind” of flowers. So I suppose cutting off the flowers is the best thing to do. But I am not a qualified gardener, just learnt this from trial and error.
